A Brief History of Haribo

Haribo is a German candy brand created in 1920 by Hans Riegel in Bonn: HAns, RIegel, BOnn…
Yes, that’s where the brand name comes from! With a bit of equipment and a bag of sugar, the confectioner began to invent candies.
First, the Dancing Bears, candy made from licorice, introduced in 1925.
The company flourished, but World War II significantly reduced production.
Hans Riegel passed away in 1945, but the company remained in the family thanks to his wife and then his children.
Haribo arrived in France in 1967 with the acquisition of a candy factory in Marseille, which became Haribo-France. Haribo-France merged with the company Ricqlès-Zan, based in Uzès. Haribo expanded into more and more countries in the 1970s and then the 1980s.
